Explain your career path—how did you become an Accounting Specialist?
I began my studies at a university that shaped my path and beliefs. Its slogan is “Think and Work,” which implies that throughout your journey, you should continuously study to understand how things function, strive to overcome all situations and be self-reliant, especially in difficult times.
I began working as an associate in a small accounting/tax firm where I learned all core accounting basics, and I had the opportunity to make as many suggestions as possible because that business was increasing its operations and building out processes. I created and established several work papers for some areas like taxes, AR, AP, among others. Then, after 3 years working there, I got to join Pricewaterhouse Coopers. At PwC, I spent my most challenging days working on different engagements and managers/partners simultaneously, getting along with various personalities and learning strong knowledge of the financial audit process. Those almost nine years were my outstanding ones regarding leading projects and committing myself to them.
In addition to working for service firms, I have also gained experience in the corporate sector, including at Cinepolis, the 4th largest cinema company worldwide. In this role, I handled financial information for stakeholders and banks, primarily following IFRS GAAPs, and applied different principles to subsidiaries in various countries. I then worked at a manufacturing company outside of Guadalajara, taking on the role of Accounting Manager. I led the accounting team, interacted with vendors, clients, and team members, and focused on improving processes to set a positive example.
Subsequently, I worked for an IT services firm, reporting to the site controller and contributing to the business management. I managed all Mexican transactions for a rapidly growing company with a large staff.
Now at TLB, I have the opportunity to assist clients in obtaining reliable financial information and guide them in making better business decisions by putting them on the right track. I am committed to aligning them with best practices and always doing what is right.
Can you describe your personal self?
I prefer to have control over my activities and don't enjoy uncertainty in both personal and professional aspects of my life. I am naturally curious and always seek to understand how things work and how they can be improved. Additionally, I deeply care about nature and animals. I particularly enjoy road trips, listening to music, and sipping on a good cup of coffee while driving.
What are your top personal values and how do you apply those to your work?
Communication: Ensuring proper communication means that we all will have as few misunderstandings as possible and heading to the same way. I reject all situations that may cause problems in self-teams related to communications because those are part of the core values of a team.
Honesty: Do the right thing. I have learned this since I was a child. Be honest, and good things will come.
Perseverance: I am someone who never gives up on anything. I believe that if you want to achieve extraordinary things, you must do extraordinary things. The path doesn't have to be long strides; baby steps count too.
Why did you choose to come to The Launch Box?
I am truly grateful to be here. I have been searching for the opportunity to be part of a leading team and to further develop my own strong skills. TLB reflects my willingness to continuously improve, adapt to change, and contribute to the success of this new and dynamic company.
What is a common misconception you hear about Accounting/finance?
People used to think that accounting and finance only involved numbers and arithmetic operations. However, they actually entail ongoing changes in laws, standards, taxes, and transaction records, with each industry having its own unique processes. Numbers aren't just statistical figures; they represent powerful decisions that can transform businesses overnight.
What is the most fulfilling part of your role at TLB?
I am part of a great team that values everyone's input, and there are no bad ideas. I enjoy my work every day by designing processes and learning from exceptional teammates. I strive to do my best and improve my performance daily.
What about the future of TLB are you most excited about?
Believing that TLB has the most capable people to help clients grow and share the same vision, we come up with ideas that facilitate their visions. This allows them to stop worrying about back-office matters and focus solely on their business.
